Nintendo Switch:
Dark Souls: Remastered:: $19.99 – 50% off
With Elden Souls coming out in February, it might be best to dive back into a Souls game. For twenty bucks and the ability to take it anywhere you go, why not experience the sweet embrace of death over and over again until you get it right?
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: $29.99 – 50% off
While Skyrim is a game that has been out for a long time, it’s the perfect gift for any new Switch owner. It may not have the same sweet upgrades the new consoles got but you really can’t beat the ability to “fus-roh-dah” unexpecting fools off of cliffs while on the go.
Astral Chain: $41.99 – 30%
In Astral Chain, you play as a police officer with the special ability to summon ferocious, tethered familiars from the Astral plane in order to protect your home city known as the Ark. The game is a whole lot of fun and it’s a great gift for anime fans receiving a new Switch.
Persona 5 Strikers: $29.99 – 50% off
Persona 5 Strikers is a follow-up game that takes place after the events of Persona 5 (not Royal). The Phantom Thieves meet up over summer break to go on a camping trip. While out searching for supplies, they quickly encounter a new threat and decide to stop the mysterious new threat to Japan.
Super Mario Odyssey: $41.99 – 30% off
In Mario’s latest, our hero dons a sentient hat and travels across the world in a hot air balloon powered by the stars in order to once again, put Bowser in his place. Do we really need to say more?
PC:
Cyberpunk 2077: $29.99 – 50% off
If you’ve ever wanted to play the best version of 2020’s biggest disaster, now is a great time. Set in the world of Cyberpunk, you play as V, a mercenary looking to make it big in Night City. However, when everything goes wrong during a high-profile job, V ends up with a bullet in the head and the ghost of a long-dead terrorist living in their head. In a fight to retain control, it’s up to you to decide how V gets the job done as they rise to the top of Night City.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon: $35.99 – 40% off
Moving on to 2020’s best RPG, we give you Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Like a Dragon picks up three years after the events of Song of Life. The game picks up as our hero, Ichiban Kasuga is released from a twenty-year sentence after taking the fall for a murder he didn’t commit. Upon his release, Ichiban is shot and left for dead. Ichi survives however and finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens the peace of his new home, Ijincho.
Dying Light: Enhanced Edition: $11.99 – 60% off
While Dying Light has been out since 2015, its sequel is set to be released on February 4th, 2022. Dying Light has a story but all that you need to know is that it’s an open-world zombie game. During the day, zombies meander around waiting for Kyle Crane, the game’s protagonist to kill them. At night, however, zombies become far more aggressive and things become much more intense. If you’re interested in the sequel, I strongly suggest picking up the first game beforehand!
Outriders: $19.79 – 67% off
Outriders is a co-op shooter where three friends can blast their way across Enoch, a planet the remnants of humanity fled to. Enoch is full of vicious creatures, angry humans, and a strange anomaly that empowers certain individuals or erases them from existence. You and your friends play as the last Outrider and with a set of brand new powers, it’s up for you to collect loot off your fallen foes and save humanity as you know it. The game just received a massive update that tweaks the loot, removes expedition timers, and adds new end game content. For twenty bucks, it’s worth jumping into.
No Man’s Sky: $29.99 – 50% off
Here we have another game that is an oldie, but a goodie. No Man’s Sky is a game that has evolved so much, it’s impressive to see how far it’s come. Hello Games has been extremely committed to turning the game into something special, making the controversy surrounding its state at release feel like a vague dream. If you own a PC and a VR headset, the game also supports VR for a fully immersive experience.
Playstation:
Marvel’s Avengers (PS4 & PS5): $15.99 – 70% off
Now is the best time to get into Marvel’s Avengers if you own a Playstation console. Over the year since the game’s release, it has received multiple content updates which include new heroes like Black Panther. If you’ve been waiting for Spider-Man to make his grand entrance, well consider that wait over too. Spider-Man will be making his debut on November 30th and be exclusively available for all Playstation gamers making it well worth fifteen bucks.
Deathloop (PS5 Only): $29.99 – 50% off
Personally, I found the first half of 2021 to be a bit stale. Thankfully around the end of summer, Psychonauts 2 and Deathloop came out and turned that around. In Deathloop, you play as Colt Vaughn, a man with no memories, who wakes up on the Isle of Blackreef. He’s quickly murdered by his nemesis Julianna Blake. Using what limited knowledge he has, Colt sets out in an attempt to find out what’s going on and ultimately end the loop.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS4 & PS5): $29.99 – 40% off
If you’re a spider-man fan, you shouldn’t miss out on Insomniac’s latest foray into one of Marvel’s most successful franchises. Miles Morales takes place just after the events of the first game as Peter leaves NYC to accompany Mary Jane on her journey to Symkaria. Miles, having just gained his Spider abilities, is left in charge of keeping the city safe. It’s just as fun and a great way to introduce people to the second-best Spider-Man.
Tales of Arise (PS4 & PS5): $41.99 – 30% off
Tales of Arise is the best the Tales series has been in a long time. Maybe it’s the new art style or the smooth combat system but Tales of Arise does a lot to elevate the franchise. I’m sure there are some passionate fans willing to disagree with me though.
Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade (PS5): $46.89 – 33% off
Intergrade is the remake packaged alongside its Tifa expansion that no fan of Final Fantasy should miss out on. At a standard price of $69.99, thirty dollars off makes it well worth buying during the Black Friday sales.
Xbox:
MLB The Show 21: $8.99 – 85% off
If you’re a sports fan and don’t have Game Pass, then you need to buy The Show 21. It’s the first licensed Baseball game the Xbox has received in a long time and it’s definitely worth getting into.
Resident Evil Village: $30 – 50% off
Resident Evil Village fans can rejoice as this is the lowest the game has been since launch. There’s really no reason to miss out on Ethan’s next adventure and experience the wrath of Lady Dimitrescu.
Psychonauts 2: $41.99 – 30% off
You don’t need to play Psychonauts or the Rhombus of Ruin to experience the phenomenal journey that is Psychonauts 2. After a quick retelling of past events, you’ll fill in the shoes of Razputin Aquato, the fresh faces Psychonauts recruit who stumbles across a dark entity that threatens to destroy the Psychonauts.
Scarlet Nexus: $35.99 – 40% off
If I’m being honest, I didn’t exactly love Scarlet Nexus. To me, it felt like an uninspired action game. However, for its price right now, I’d definitely recommend a purchase. Despite the fact it hits on every anime trope and doesn’t do anything special, it still manages to be an entertaining adventure. It’s also the perfect gift for any anime fan.
Lost Judgment: $41.99 – 30% off
It goes without saying that any fan of the Yakuza franchise needs to play Lost Judgment. The sequel to Judgment makes a bunch of quality of life improvements, adds fantastic new fighting styles, and takes players back to Ijincho as Yagami attempts to solve another mysterious murder. Lost Judgment also keeps the beat-em-up gameplay that made Yakuza so much fun in the first place alive.
Physical Games:
Bravely Default II:: $26.99 via Gamestop
Explore a new world as you fight for survival with your customized team of heroes in the Bravely Default II game, a strikingly beautiful RPG adventure. Balance risk and reward in turn-based battles with the Brave and Default commands.
Guardians of the Galaxy: $25 via Amazon
Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy is easily my Game of the Year. I’m still not over how the VGAs disrespected it! I’m kidding of course, but if Marvel’s Avengers hurt your view on Square Enix’s ability to put out decent Marvel games, Guardians will mend your broken heart.
Riders Republic: $25 via Gamestop
For twenty-five bucks, there is absolutely no reason to not visit Riders Ridge. Seriously. This is a fantastic price for the adrenaline, extreme sports game. Grab your bike, skis, snowboard, jetpack, whatever, and jump in right now… after you visit your local Gamestop and buy the game.
Deathloop (PS5): $29.99 via Best Buy – Includes Steelbook case.
I realize Deathloop makes an appearance on this list twice but this mention in the physical section is one for the collectors. When you buy the game from Best Buy, you get a steelbook case that is exclusive to the electronics retailer.
It Takes Two: $19.99 via Amazon
From Hazelight studios the creator of A Way Out comes their next co-operative adventure, It Takes Two. A game that easily worked its way into the hearts of many, you play as a couple on the verge of divorce. Somehow though, their minds are transported into the bodies of two dolls created by their daughter to represent them. The two are forced to work together if they want to survive and return to their bodies.
