When the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack was announced during a Nintendo Direct, fans knew that while the content they were asking for via N64 titles was coming, they KNEW that it would be at a price. Then it was announced that the price would be $50 in total a year for Online and the new content. Needless to say…fans weren’t happy. And that unhappiness continued when it arrived yesterday because not surprisingly…the historical content isn’t good.
It’s not just us saying that, the community-driven site Resetera went and compiled a list of all the problems that gamers are seeing. Not the least of which are:
- Input lag ranging from “slightly noticeable” to “I can’t play Mario 64 or Mario Kart 64 like this”.
- Bizarre button layout that essentially reverses the placement of A and B, and has weird C-Button placement above them.
- Framerate issues and more input lag hindering games like Yoshi’s Island and Star Fox 64.
- Sound delay in addition to input lag, most reports of this happening are related to Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64.
- Texture issues in Mario Kart 64
- Controller Pack error in certain games (Winback, Mario Kart 64) since they didn’t emulate any version of it.
- Music issues where the tracks sound sped up or garbled
For a more visual look at how Nintendo screwed up with this, here is a tweet with video showcasing the problems in the content:

We were equally vocal about this in a recent episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, and you can bet we’ll be talking about this again soon.
