We’ve waited for quite some time, didn’t we? But finally, the trailer for ‘The Matrix Resurrections,’ the fourth movie in the series, has been released online. I’ve been a massive fan of ‘The Matrix’ ever since a friend dragged me to a movie theater, one that doesn’t exist anymore (R.I.P). After the movie was over, I still remember we jumped back in line to see it again, followed by a very long dinner talking about the movie in a restaurant of other movie-goers who were doing the same. Damn, those were great times.
As for this trailer, I’ve watched it at least 20 times so far, looking for all the Easter eggs that were hidden, and there are quite a few of them. I still don’t understand what’s happening here and what the movie is about, but I have some ideas.
But enough of my rambling, check out the trailer for yourself.
In the trailer, we see that Keanu Reeve’s Neo finds himself back in the Matrix. Now taking a boatload of blue pills and seeing a therapist, who Neil Patrick Harris plays, and a short fight scene that’s reminiscent of the fight one from the original Matrix. Only this time, he’s not facing off against Laurence Fishburne, but with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. There’s a lot of stuff going on, and I can’t stop geeking out, that’s for sure.
I’m still puzzled by Laurence Fishburne wasn’t invited back and why he was replaced. Maybe because he did die in the Matrix MMORPG, Matrix Online. Maybe because the film is heading in a different direction, at this point, who knows? Either way, I know that once this film drops, I’ll be right in front of my 65-inch TV, with the surround system blazing and NEVER taking one step into the movie theater.
The Matrix Resurrections cast / The Matrix 4 cast also The film stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Candyman,” the “Aquaman” franchise) Jessica Henwick (TV’s “Iron Fist,” “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”), Jonathan Groff (“Hamilton,” TV’s “Mindhunter”), Neil Patrick Harris (“Gone Girl”), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (TV’s “Quantico,”), Christina Ricci (TV’s “Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story,” “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles”), Telma Hopkins (TV’s “Dead to Me,”), Eréndira Ibarra (series “Sense8,” “Ingobernable”), Toby Onwumere (TV’s “Empire”), Max Riemelt (series “Sense8”), Brian J. Smith (series “Sense8,” “Treadstone”), and Jada Pinkett Smith (“Angel Has Fallen,” TV’s “Gotham”). While being directed by Lana Wachowski, who also worked on all three of the prior films. It’s worth mentioning that this film was announced back in 2019 as Matrix 4 but ended up with the subtitle only a few months ago.
The Matrix Resurrections release date is December 22nd, 2021, and will appear in theaters and HBO Max. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for that date t get here. Perhaps while we’re all waiting, we can take the time and revisit the original films. Yeah, that’s exactly what we should do.
