At last year’s Game Awards we got a reveal that The Initiative, one of the many studios acquired by Xbox Game Studios in recent years, is working on a reboot to the Perfect Dark franchise. Now it seems that the studio is partnering with Crystal Dynamics for assistance on the title.
Very little is known about the new direction of the reboot or what the extent of Crystal Dynamics’ involvement will be. The Initiative does have some talent that originally came from Crystal Dynamics that previously worked on the Tomb Raider reboot. It’s likely that a few former coworkers are getting to work together again on something that could potentially be as well-received as those recent Tomb Raider titles. At least that’s the hope.
The teams couldn’t pass up a chance to work together. We’re still early in development, but incredibly excited to use this unique opportunity to deliver on the vision for Perfect Dark!

The Perfect Dark reboot would be the first new title in the franchise since 2005 after Perfect Dark Zero launched alongside the Xbox 360. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo 64 title that kicked off the series was eventually ported to the Xbox 360. Both titles are currently available on the Rare Replay compilation as well as on Xbox Game Pass.
