While Marvel’s Midnight Suns was given a deeper look during Gamescom 2021, we didn’t get much gameplay to look at. That all changes today, as we were given an extended look at some gameplay today, featuring the Hunter and Wolverine facing up against Sabretooth. We also got an extended look at the hub where players can interact with NPCs and switch up characters in their team.
Take a look at the early gameplay footage below:
Finally, we can see the card deck building system in action. Many have already written off a system that is a departure from the same gameplay system that made X-COM such an amazing game. I still think it’s premature to say that the card deck system is a failure, but it does change the dynamic. To me, this plays more like a mixture of Hearthstone and a TRPG, as you’re using cards and building up resources. It remains to be seen just how well this game plays, but it still does show some promise – at least to me, it does.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is currently in development by Firaxis Games and will be released in March 2022 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
