When Bloober Team announced it was bringing its survival horror title, The Medium, to the PlayStation 5, the very first question was would it implement DualSense support? Sure enough, the developer was keen to point out that it would. Today, Bloober Team released new information and a video on just how the DualSense would interact with The Medium.
“On PlayStation 5, we are taking full advantage of the console’s DualSense controller to immerse you even deeper into the mystery of the Niwa Hotel. Our goal is to let you feel Marianne’s reactions to what is happening as she explores and interacts with the game world,” explains Szymon Erdmański, producer at Bloober Team.
Here’s the breakdown of how the DualSense works in The Medium.
- Spiritblasts – The longer you hold the adaptive trigger, the less resistance you’ll feel.
- Spirit shield – With haptic feedback, you’ll feel enemies hitting the spirit shield from different directions.
- Holding your breath – Instead of relying on an on-screen indication, the DualSense will provide feedback on just how long you have left when holding your breath.
- Touchpad – Use the touchpad to investigate items instead of using the analog stick.
- Cutting through objects – When using various items needed to cut through obstacles, the sounds will come from the DualSense Speaker.
- Using the flashlight. – The DualSense lightbar will work similarly to the protagonist’s flashlight. Alerting you when there’s danger around.
The Medium releases on September 3rd, 2021, for the PlayStation 5 and is currently available for the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
