It has been reported by an industry insider that the upcoming XCOM-Like Firaxis Marvel game will not feature playable Marvel Heroes.
According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, on a paywalled Giant Bomb stream, the game itself could be officially revealed during Gamescom later this month. Grubb claims that the game will not feature any known Marvel Heroes, instead focusing on a character created hero.
“It’s not going to have any existing MCU characters, but it should take place in the wider universe” Grubb stated on the Giant Bomb stream. He went on to divulge the following information.
“The game is going to focus on the supernatural elements of the Marvel universe. I don’t know if that necessarily means like Blade, but I do think there will be vampires in it, and I don’t know if it means mystical Marvel… but I think you might see enemies of that type you’re fighting.”
It was also claimed by Grubb that the game would give players the chance to create a team of superheroes rather than playing as any already established hero.
“I do think that the character you’re playing will be a customisable superhero, or at least the team might be customisable, so it’s still going to have XCOM in that way.”
The fact that Firaxis is working on a Marvel project was discovered by several sources in June this year. The game comes off the heels of the announcement of a Guardians of the Galaxy game releasing later this year, developed by Eidos-Montreal, and the Marvel Avengers game released last year that was developed by Crystal Dynamics.
