Supernatural fans may have despaired (or been very disappointed) last year when the show wrapped up its 15th and final season. Well, have no fear! There’s still demons to hunt and lives on the line in the upcoming prequel, The Winchesters, which is being executive produced by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel.
The Winchesters will follow John and Mary Winchester, the parents of Supernatural‘s main characters. The show will be about the “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” Jensen Ackles will reprise his role as Dean Winchester in order to act as the show’s narrator.
“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’” Jensen Ackles told Deadline. “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
There was some upset over the fact that Jared Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester on Supernatural, found out about the new show on Twitter. After some minor speculation and sub-tweeting, it looks like the two have talked and repaired the rift for now. No word on if Sam Winchester’s voice will ever make an appearance on the show as a narrator.
Love you @jarpad …
Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you’re busy…as am I, but you’re still my brother. I miss you, pal. https://t.co/KtRKYkvc2K— Jensen Ackles (@JensenAckles) June 25, 2021
As of right now, we have no idea who is cast in any of the other roles nor when production will begin on the series.
