E3 2021 has come and gone and many people were disappointed that there was no Mega Man announcement from Capcom; however, there were rumors of a mobile game called Rockman XZ: Time Rift that kept us guessing if we would, indeed, get something new.
Details were revealed by NebulaJoy on Protodude’s Rockman Corner that, yes, the game is real. Yes, it will be on mobile, and yes… you can’t play it!
Well, unless you live in China or have a mobile emulator plus a nice little VPN to make the app store think you live in China.
According to the details, there will be an optional online PvP game mode, a small selection of playable characters, and a release window of 2022-2023. The game is scheduled to be formally introduced later this year and a closed beta will be launched in China soon thereafter.
The game is being developed for next-generation mobile hardware and, unfortunately, there are no plans for a console or PC version. In fact, there are no plans to have this game outside of China.
And so, as Mega Man fans, we’re back doing the thing we know how to do best: wait.
