Looking forward to playing the evolved version of Sega’s MMO, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis? Well, you won’t have to wait much longer as the official Phantasy Star Online 2 Twitter account has announced the release date. Starting on June 9th, 2021, PSO2:NG will be available to play just after the maintenance ends on the same date.
PSO2 NEW GENESIS is launching on June 9th! 🎉💫✨
PSO2:NGS will launch after the end of maintenance on June 9, 2021 (Wed).
We will be holding campaigns to celebrate the launch. We hope you’re all looking forward to it too!https://t.co/pxqpPpSl2L #PSO2 #PSO2NGS pic.twitter.com/yQsnbdjqVT— Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis – Global (@play_pso2) June 1, 2021
Of course, we know this is heading to the Xbox and Windows PC via the Microsoft Store. However, it’s also heading to Steam on the same date. While the tweet doesn’t mention any platforms, a quick check on the Steam community hub for the original game also shows the same announcement.
Meaning you’ll have a choice of playing it via the Xbox/Windows Store or Steam. I don’t know about you, but my experience with the Microsoft Store as of late hasn’t been a positive experience. Between the game not downloading, to constantly disconnecting me. So I’ll be playing on Steam. Thankfully, the game supports cross-play and cross-progression with Xbox and Windows 10. As for the PlayStation version, there’s still no word on if PSO2 is still happening.
After playing the last Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis beta, I had to stop playing. It was mainly because it was so good, and I got hooked, and I didn’t want to do too much and regret doing so as the characters were being wiped—that and a few bugs that impacted performance on the PC. But once the game is released, I can see it being my new digital crack (someone, please save me).
Watch for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis on June 9th, 2021, for Xbox and PC (Microsoft Store and Steam).
