Metroid Dread Has Been Revealed, Coming This October

By Todd BlackJune 15, 2021
Metroid Dread

Four years ago, Metroid Prime 4 was announced for Nintendo Switch. And while the Big N didn’t have any news on that today outside of the fact that they were working on it still, they DID have a major Metroid surprise in the form of Metroid Dread! A 2D platformer made by MercurySteam (the team who did Metroid Samus Returns) and is the first new 2D title in the franchise since Metroid Fusion!

In this tale, which is officially the “fifth game” in the storyline, Samus is on an unknown planet and will be hunted and chased by Galactic Federation robots known as E.M.M.I’s. Samus can’t hurt them, and thus if she alerts their sensors, she’ll be hunted down and thus must evade them or make them leave via a new camouflage feature.

The game also promises to “end the story arc” between Samus and the Metroids. Here’s the Metroid Dread reveal trailer:

As if all of that wasn’t enough, Metroid Dread Producer, Yoshio Sakamoto went and did a detailed breakdown of the game for those who were wondering about certain salient elements.

The game arrives on October 8th on Nintendo Switch!
