It was E3 2019 when the first teaser for Breath of the Wild 2 was shown. And since then, gamers have been wanting to see more. In truth, they’ve wanted ANY bit of information that could help shine a light on what is going to happen in the direct sequel to the beloved title. Well, via the Nintendo Direct from E3 2021, we finally have another look at the game.
It doesn’t have a title yet, but we do know some things about the world as a whole. As teased previously, a great darkness has come from below Hyrule, and it’s literally ripped up chunks of land and put them into the sky. Zelda appears to have fallen into a chasm, and Link has been imbued with new abilities mirroring the Sheikah Slate.
Furthermore, Link will be able to travel up through the various land masses in order to explore them, giving a very distinct Skyward Sword feel.
Producer Eiji Aonuma also confirmed that the team is aiming for a 2022 release date. Check out the trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 below.
