The Division universe is set to expand with a new free to play title.
Ubisoft announced on twitter via their main account, a free to play spin off title for their Division universe called The Division Heartland. While the announcement came with an accompanying blog post detailing the roadmap for future Division content including the F2P spin off, we don’t actually have any information of the project other than its name so far. There are theories that it may be a Battle Royal game and with Ubisoft’s history of chasing trends it is not out there to think this F2P expansion to the universe won’t be another one of those situations.

The project will be headed up by one of Ubisoft’s additional studios Red Storm Entertainment. Red Storm have spent most of their time in the past as a support studio for Tom Clancy games but at this time it appears that they will be going it alone for Heartland.
In addition to the announcement of Heartland the blog post from Ubisoft also contained this roadmap that details the future of The Division franchise showing that after Heartland players should expect another DLC for The Division 2 and then a future mobile release, (no details on if this a port for mobile or a spin off but I’m guessing a spin off.) novel and Netflix film. It’s strange to think that a game based on a novel will be getting its own novel but I guess that’s the Ubisoft process when it comes to their franchises.
If you are fan of The Division series this will surely be an exiting time for you but if you have yet to dip your toes into the games you can pick up The Division 2 and the Warlords of Ney York expansion here. You can still pick up the first title but seeing as you don’t need direct knowledge of the events of the first game and Ubisoft has pretty much ditched support for it in favour of the sequel, I wouldn’t recommend picking it up. Also The Division 2 is just a better game overall.
