Without a doubt, the Nintendo Switch has done well in the current console generation it’s in. When it released in 2017, many saw it as a “last chance” for Nintendo to make a dent in the console industry after the failure of the Wii U. But instead, it took over the world, and every quarter the numbers for the consoles it sells and the games that cross over a million in sales builds. And now, we have the Q4 2020 numbers to back that up.
Q4 ended on March 31st, 2021, and as of that time, the Nintendo Switch sold 84.59 million units. Considering that this means they needed less than 500,000 to reach 85 million, and the entire month of April has passed, it’s safe to say they’ve reached that marker. Furthermore, the Switch has surpassed the global sales of the Game Boy Advanced, which sold 81 million in its lifetime.
Now, as for the newly updated million-sellers list, there are some interesting jumps and additions. Not the least of which is Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which has sold over 5 million units since its release in February, as well as Mario Kart Live Circuit which had over a million sales since launch:
Note: the list below doesn’t contain ALL of the million-sellers for the Switch. 3rd party titles like Monster Hunter Rise (which has already been confirmed to have shipped 6 million copies out) and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle aren’t there, as well as certain 1st party titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Kirby Star Allies, and more. This is just the list that was released:
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 35.39 million
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 32.63 million
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 23.84 million
Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 22.28 million

So as you can see, Nintendo has a lot to celebrate as it heads into the first official quarter of 2021. One that will end in June, which also welcomes gamers and game developers back to E3. Nintendo is said to be preparing a big show for E3 2021, so stay tuned for that.
