After all these years, the Steam version of Nier Automata is getting patched.
It’s a game that needed a patch ever since it was released due to performance-related issues but never received one. Instead, the 3rd party tool “FAR“, was created so that the game could be playable for most. Now, out of nowhere, a tweet from the official Nier Twitter account posted a message that the Steam version is getting patched.
An upgrade patch for the Steam version of #NieR:Automata is currently in development.

This is likely due to the Windows Store version of the game being released via Xbox Game Pass PC, and according to some, the better version. However, thanks to the diligence of Eurogamer, that claim isn’t true, and despite a few new features, the games play the same. Though, I still think it plays better than the Steam version.
It also could be that the prequel to the game being remastered, Nier: Replicant, which releases very shortly as well. Or it could be that all of those review bombs finally convinced someone to do something about it. Either way, it’s been three years since the Steam version of Nier: Automata was released, and now a patch is finally being released.
I just hope that this patch does bring some improvements, and doesn’t break FAR if it doesn’t. I don’t want to see a patch introduced, that breaks something else.
I suppose it’s better than never, right Square Enix and Platinum Games?
Nier Automata is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Windows Store).
