Resident Evil 4 VR, Mercenaries Returns, and more!
New Trailer For Resident Evil Village
To start the Showcase, we got a fresh new trailer for Resident Evil Village with more story and even more tall vampire ladies. This time biting into Ethan Winter’s wrist and drinking him like a Capri Sun juice pouch. We got to see a little more of the titular village along with some of the catacombs as Ethan is beset by a slew of creatures as well as a pissed-off Chris Redfield who has apparently murdered Mia Winters.
This new trailer was heavy on action and even heavier on story while still leaving plenty of mysteries on the table. We also got a few images of some classic Resident Evil iconography like the Umbrella logo seemingly emblazoned on some ruins in the village. Raising even more questions than we already had. It looks to be another bonkers entry in the series while also taking it back to some of the early elements that fans fell in love with 25 years ago.
Resident Evil Village releases on May 7th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia.
Resident Evil Village Demo Coming to All Platforms
Resident Evil Village will also be receiving a few demos this time around. So PlayStation players won’t be the only ones getting some love. This new demo will be time-limited to 60 minutes. This is also similar to a few of the demos we saw for the Resident Evil 2 remake. In this demo, you will have 60 minutes to explore both the castle and the village segments of the game.
The demo will go live May 1st/2nd depending on your territory.
PlayStation players will also be receiving early access to the demo starting on April 17th/18th. It is currently available to pre-download on the PlayStation Store. All versions of the demo will be available for only an 8-hour window to commemorate this being the eighth main installment in the series.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 players will have two early access opportunities, where they will have an eight-hour window to play 30 minutes for each section. The first date (April 17th) will offer the village portion starting, with the second demo (April 24th) providing access to the castle.
The Return of Mercenaries Mode
Fans wanted it back and Capcom listened. For the initiated, Mercenaries is a wave-based bonus mode where you’re under siege by all manner of enemies from the main story. You’re timed and given objectives to take out enemies and are rewarded for doing so efficiently. It’s very much Resident Evil’s version of horde mode. It’s a different vibe to what we’ve seen from the rest of Resident Evil Village with a much more action-oriented and arcade feel to it. It’s definitely a welcome inclusion.
New Trailer for Resident Evil Infinite Darkness and an Update on the Live-Action Reboot
The upcoming CG-animated movie Resident Evil Infinite Darkness received a new trailer along with a few more tidbits on the story. It will heavily feature Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield and will take place two years after the events of Resident Evil 4.
We also know that the father of Ashley Graham, who Leon spent RE4 trying to save, is still the president of the United States at this point in the timeline. Leon also finds himself seemingly working in the White House this time around while Claire brings him up to speed on a very imminent threat reminiscent of Raccoon City. If one this can be said for certain, things will certainly turn really bad really fast. It wouldn’t be Resident Evil otherwise.
Resident Evil Infinite Darkness comes to Netflix this July.
We received far less news on the upcoming live-action reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, but we did get word that it has finished filming. The team behind the new big-screen adaptation is hard at work on editing and putting the CGI together for the film. So it’s still going to be a good while until we have more news but it is nice that we aren’t being completely kept in the dark on it.
Resident Evil Comes to Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight, the extremely popular asymmetrical survival horror title, will be getting some Resident Evil content. We were only given a short tease, but horror fans will be very happy once this crossover lands in June.
Players can also receive an Umbrella Corporation charm in the game once the content becomes available.
Resident Evil 4 Comes to Oculus Quest 2 VR
Last but certainly not least, Capcom has yet again brought their darling to another platform. Resident Evil 4 will be making its way to VR for the first time via Quest 2. This time around, you’ll be playing this classic in a first-person perspective and given a new look at the horrors that Leon S. Kennedy finds himself in.
More details are on the way on April 21st when Oculus goes live on their Facebook and Twitch channel.
Resolutions and Frame Rates Revealed
Capcom also took the time to provide a detailed look at console versions of Resident Evil Village resolution and frame rates. Here we can see how the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S and Stadia compare.
