One of the things I’ve noticed with my install of Outriders for the PC (Steam) is that my settings would never save. Meaning that every time I started the game, I had to redo all of my settings, and it became a nuisance for me. My video, key binds, pretty much everything. It was odd and annoying. Fortunately for me, I tend to diagnose computer issues as my daily job, and I could track down my issue. Hopefully, this will help anyone else who’s having this issue. This will work for both Steam and the Epic Games Store versions as they save to the same location.
Fixing the issue
To correct the issue, you’re going to need to navigate to the Outriders configuration folder. By default, this is under “C:\Users\your user\AppData\Local\Madness\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor”. Once there, look for the “GameUserSettings.ini” file. You’ll have two options to fix the issue.
You can delete the “GameUserSettings.ini” file, and when the game restarts, the file will be recreated.
— Or —
you can right-click on the file and check the properties to make sure it isn’t set to read-only. I’m not sure why mine was set to this, but it was. Which meant that every time the game started and I made changes, it wouldn’t stick.
Either method works, and both will ensure that your settings will be saved the next time you launch the game. If I had to guess why this happened, it likely had something to do with the demo.
Hopefully, this helps everyone who was encountering the settings saved bug.
Outriders is currently available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, and Stadia.
