Yesterday, while I was out attempting to get my COVID-19 vaccine and was freezing my ass off inline, I was passing the time away reading Twitter. I then noticed that Netflix has announced that they would be working with Valve on an upcoming anime for DOTA. Immediately I gasped, and I’m sure the person behind me had backed up a few spaces (6FT, damn it!) when I read that.
Dragon’s Blood, as it’s being called, is an upcoming DOTA-based series that will explore the DOTA universe like never before. Based on the summary provided by Netflix, the series will focus on Davion. Davion, for those who play DOTA, will recognize him as a Dragon Knight.
The sweeping fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.
It’s slated for a March 25, 2021, release date. That’s really soon, when means the animation has either been in the works for a while, or they’re really rushing through this. The animated series will see eight episodes, written by Ashley Edward Miller and produced by Kihyun Ryu. Netflix has really been doubling down on anime, and this latest announcement is proof of this.
So, yeah, a DOTA anime. I’m not sure that anyone was asking for this, but hey, if League of Legends can get an animated series, so can DOTA. They are direct competitors, after all. That said, I prefer LOL, even if it is a bit… toxic.
