Big-time streamers are often seen as influencers in the gaming community but the same also applies to the anime community. Lex Burner, a streamer with around 9 million followers, exercised his influence by inciting his fans to report the Mushoku Tensei anime on the Shanghai-based Bilibili video sharing service.
Because of his user’s actions, posts centered around the anime were removed from the site due to technical reasons. After an investigation by Bilibili, it was determined that the streamer was in breach of contract per his actions and the company will now be pursuing legal action against him. The statement by Bilibili also mentioned that Burner had made several inappropriate comments on his streams that invoked the conflict and were seen as attacks on the company and on third parties.
Examples of those comments were Burner stating that Mushoku Tensei is an anime for poor people because they are the only ones who can identify with the series’ protagonist. He also stated that the anime promoted mediocrity.
Lex Burner’s streaming account will be banned until a verdict can be reached in the case. His two 2020 performance awards have been revoked in addition to being disqualified from participating in their Creative Incentive Program.
