Dbrand is now selling PS5 faceplates, dares PlayStation to sue them

By Keith MitchellFebruary 12, 2021

Dbrand, a company that has made its name by selling high-quality skins for various electronics. Laptops, tablets, gaming consoles, and more, Dbrand is who you goto when you want to add some pizzazz to your stuff. Now, the company is adding PlayStation 5 plates to its line-up, which may incur Sony PlayStation’s wrath. And yet, Dbrand doesn’t seem to be worried.

Now, if you’ve been following the recent PlayStation 5 faceplates scene, there was one company that offered what Dbrand is doing. PlayStation got involved, and that company stopped production (but are back apparently). Then We had another company come along, advertising Matte Black PlayStation 5’s, which has stiffed those who had paid for them.

Enter Dbrand, who is now selling its own replacement faceplate called Darkplates and is seemingly taunting PlayStation to sue them. While they didn’t say it directly, if you head over to the Dbrand matte black faceplate for the PlayStation 5, you’ll see what I’m referring to in the image below.

Oh, Dbrand, ever the rebel.

But to be fair, I’m sure Dbrand has already consulted with thier lawyers on this matter, and that would be why they’re so cheeky here. They did everything they could to make this skin similar to the official PlayStation 5 offering but included their own spin. I suppose that’s why they’re daring PlayStation to sue them. As you can see below, the official PlayStation icons and images etched into the PS5 plates have been replaced with similar images from a distance, but definitely not the same when you look closer. That’s genius, if I’m honest; Dbrand has done their homework.

Again, these are direct replacements for the existing PlayStation plates or the outer shell. Which are fairly easy to pull off, and buying a set of replacements is a tad easier than painting the plates yourself.

Currently, Dbrand is only selling the complete replacement plates for the disc version of the PS5, and that’s back-ordered. There is a listing for the digital PS5; however, at this time it’s merely for a skin and does not include the replacement plates. There’s no word on when we’ll see a complete plate replacement for the digital PS5, but we’ve reached out to Dbrand to see if they have a timeframe.

Either way, it looks like most (including myself) will be heading to Dbrand to get their PS5 replacement plates. This is mainly due to the company being known for its quality, and I haven’t found many people who weren’t satisfied with their stuff.

It looks like I’ll also be waiting in line because I really want a matte black PS5 plate replacement.
