Today during Capcom’s Resident Evil showcase, Capcom announced Resident Evil Village would not only be released for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but now the PS4 and Xbox One.
When Capcom first announced Resident Evil Village back in 2020, they did so only for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This, of course, didn’t sit well with the millions of PS4 and Xbox One owners, who complained that they were being left out. If Resident Evil 7 ran on the older generation of consoles, surely Resident Evil Village would as well, was the argument.
An argument that worked, as Capcom had walked back their original announcement and said they would try to get the next chapter of Resident Evil to run on those consoles. Fast-forward to today, where Capcom has confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox One are no longer being left in the cold. And while I applaud the change in plans, It does sadden me that Village is no longer a next-generation Resident Evil title. That and I hope that the PS4 and Xbox One’s performance is up to snuff; I do not want to see another Cyberpunk 2077, and yes, I’m going to keep saying that.
In addition to the updated news, Capcom also released the Maiden demo for Resident Evil Village for the PS5.
Did somebody say demo? (We did. We said demo.) Revealed during #REShowcase, a PlayStation 5 exclusive visual demo, Maiden, will be available for download starting later today!

Yep, if you’re on Xbox or PC, you can’t play it, so I hope you can access a PS5. This demo is a self-contained playthrough and isn’t connected to Resident Evil Village and serves as a technical demo to showcase the visuals and 3D audio from the upcoming title. As the Maiden, players will need to rely solely on their wits to make their escape in this tension-filled demo, as they’ll have no way to fight or defend themselves. A separate new demo for all platforms will be available during Spring 2020.
Resident Evil Village will be released for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 7th, 2021. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!
