Nintendo fans honestly had a lot to be made about in 2020. Not the least of which was the pandemic pushing back potential 2020 releases in 2021 and thus making the year rather barren outside of a few key releases. This was only magnified when it was revealed that Pikmin 3 Deluxe (and not the long-rumored Pikmin 4) would be a later release in 2020, and it was met with no buzz upon launch…in most of the world that is.
Because reports are now showing that Japan was apparently fine with this release, as it’s now the best-selling Pikmin game in Japan. The previous holder of that record was the original Pikmin title on the Gamecube, followed by its immediate sequel. But now, Deluxe has beaten that. Check out the stats below:
1. [NSW] Pikmin 3 Deluxe – 513,225
2. [NGC] Pikmin – 502,996
3. [NGC] Pikmin 2 – 483,027
4. [WII] New Play Control! Pikmin 2 – 237,064
5. [WIU] Pikmin 3 – 232,313
6. [WII] New Play Control! Pikmin – 170,866
7. [3DS] Hey! Pikmin – 157,007
It also should be noted that the digital sales of the game are not included in the number for Pikmin 3 Deluxe. So by that measure, it’s likely a bit higher, if not a lot higher given the trends of digital sales in 2020.
So given this number, and the likely numbers of the port in the US, UK and beyond, it’s VERY likely that the title has crossed the one-million mark. Adding it to a LONG list of titles to do so for the Nintendo Switch. Hopefully these good sales numbers encourages Nintendo to go and release Pikmin 4 soon.
