New Harry Potter Show in Talks For HBO Max

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJanuary 25, 2021
Harry Potter TV Series

Looks like the Boy Who Lived will be making the jump from the silver screen to a streaming service. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new Harry Potter series is in development for HBO Max. They say that sources have told them “the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television. Sources say broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings.”

At this time, there has been no word as to what storylines are being explored at this time, nor if any of the cast of the films would make appearances on this show.

This might bring in even more people to HBO Max, which has the rights to stream massive hits like Friends and Game of Thrones, as well as all of DC’s content. Additionally, HBO Max will also soon have Game of Thrones shows to continue that literary franchise.

It’ll be interesting to see if the controversy around J.K. Rowling will affect the prospects, and popularity, of the show. In 2020, Rowling wrote an essay wherein she outlined her anti-transgender beliefs, which was poorly received by many fans around the world. There have been plenty of companies that continue to produce and sell Harry Potter merchandise, as well as promoting her detective series written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. We will continue to monitor this story as it develops.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
