Last night during The Game Awards Show, Bandai Namco took to the virtual stage to showcase some new gameplay from its upcoming action RPG title, Scarlet Nexus. While I still don’t know exactly what sort of vibe the game is going, it is growing on me. Is it similar to Code Vein? Is it more Astral Chain? Possibly like Nier: Automata? Whatever it is, I like what I see.
We also got some details of the story that will play out during Scarlet Nexus and were introduced to a larger cast compared or last time. I think that was also one of the antagonists of the game. Though I would have gathered some more gameplay, what was shown was decent. Here’s to hoping it won’t be another 3+ months before we hear anything else out of the Bandai Namco camp about the game.
Check out the trailer below.
Scarlet Nexus is being spearheaded by Kenji Anabuki, who previously worked as a game designer on Tales of Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Xillia, and Xillia 2. All of which were more traditional RPGs, so it’s going to be interesting to see how the game mechanics in Scarlet Nexus compare to these titles.
In the far distant future, a psionic hormone has been discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers, and changing the world as we know it. As humanity enters this new era, deranged mutants known as Others begin to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains. Impervious to conventional weapons, those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psychics, are our only chance to fight the onslaught from above and preserve humanity. Since that fateful day psychics have been scouted for their talents and recruited to the Other Suppression Force, humanity’s last line of defense.
Well, I was already looking forward to this, but this was a nice reminder.
Scarlet Nexus is set to arrive on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC during Summer 2021.
