The Motion Picture Association of America stated that they have sent cease and desist letters to individuals that are alleged members of the Nyaa anime torrent website back in September of this year. The individuals are said to reside in North America, Europe, and Australia.
The cease and desist states that Nyaa is to shut down due to copyright infringement in addition to paying a financial settlement to the MPA. In addition, the MPA is also demanding that complete control of the website, its domain, and anything associated with it.
Nyaa made a statement in regards to the legal action being taken by the MPA:
To briefly address this, we have no plans to shutdown or quit at this time. If we do choose to shutdown eventually we will make a public database dump for any successor entity to use, we will not be just disappearing like our predecessor site leaving everyone else on their own.
As of now, Nyaa is still up and running. We will have to see what happens as this situation unfolds.
