It’s been speculated that if you’re going to attempt to purchase a PlayStation 5 (or an Xbox Series X|S) on launch day, that it would be a nearly impossible task. Now it would seem that it won’t be nearly impossible, but completely impossible as the Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Communications, Sid Shuman, has stated that there will be no PS5’s available in stores. That is outside of the ones that have been pre-sold and have been spoken for.
No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online, says Sid Shuman.
He continues, “Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer”.
So there you have it, don’t bother trying to hit up any local stores for a PlayStation 5. Though, I’m still convinced that making this an online-only scenario isn’t the best one. We’ve all see how fast PS5’s (and Xbox Series X|S) have sold out online, either gobbled up by eager fans or scalpers looking to make a quick buck.
Sadly, this will mean that many who’ve been eyeing the PS5 won’t be able to snag one on launch day. Or in the worst-case scenario, likely not all in 2020.
The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th for most, while other locations will have to wait a week, November 19th, 2020.
