To say that the Nintendo Switch has a bunch of best-selling games would be an understatement. They have many that have sold many millions. But easily the biggest surprise amongst those best-sellers is that of Animal Crossing New Horizons. Many people felt it could do well given the success of Animal Crossing New Leaf on the 3DS mixed with Switch sales and so on. But, because of the global pandemic, the game exploded with sales and now stands at over 26 million units sold in less than 8 months.
Nintendo is stunned by these sales, but they’re also very happy with them because they intend to keep the game active with various things to ensure that players continue growing and expanding their islands for a long time to come.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa had this to say on the matter:
“The sales pace of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has eased compared to the period around its initial release, but among all our titles, this one continues to maintain high sales levels. As I mentioned in response to a previous question, this title is also driving Nintendo Switch hardware sales in Asian markets, which have relatively smaller sales numbers than the markets in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. Going forward, we will continue to implement in-game events and would like to create a situation where consumers will keep enjoying the game for a long time. This will be the first year-end sales season for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and we hope even more people will take that opportunity to purchase the game.”
An update for the Thanksgiving/Christmas season is set to hit Animal Crossing New Horizons this month.
