IO Interactive, the studio behind the modern Hitman trilogy, has announced a new James Bond video game. The tentatively titled Project 007 will be an entirely original story that’ll focus on the British spy’s origins. According to the IO interactive website, “players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.”

Little else has been announced about the project with no target date revealed or gameplay to be shown but with the warm reception the new Hitman games have received, there’s plenty to be excited about. We haven’t had a 007 title in nearly 10 years with 007 Legends being released in 2012 during the Xbox 360/PS3 era but even then the game was panned by critics and fans alike. You’d have to back further to 2009 when Activision announced that it would be releasing a reimagined version of the classic 007 Goldeneye for the Wii.
