Ok, you can stop harassing Respawn Entertainment about cross-play support, they get it! You’ve asked and pledged, some of you even demanded it (who do you think you are? Serpentor?) and now cross-play support is coming to the game.
As of October 6th, 2020, cross-play will be added in a new update called the “Aftermarket Collection Event”, which will also include a bunch of new content. Cross-play support will be added for PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Origin). There’s currently no word on when the Steam version will also have cross-play support enabled, nor was the upcoming Nintendo Switch version mentioned.
Hey Everyone,
I’m Chad Grenier, Game Director for Apex Legends, and I’m excited to reveal our latest Collection Event, Aftermarket, launching on Tuesday, October 6. This update brings a ton of new content including a brand new LTM called Flashpoint, tricked out event cosmetics, free rewards for playing, and the long time fan requested cross-play, which is now in beta release!
You heard it, cross-play is here and we’d love to see you partying up with your friends across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC!!
Here’s how this is going to work. Once the update drops, cross-play will be enabled by default, while the Xbox One version will require a setting in the system settings to be enabled. From there console gamers will be able to play against/alongside others on the PS4, and Xbox One, while PC gamers will continue to be pooled with other PC gamers. However, if a console player invites someone from the PC to play with them, everyone in the party will be dropped into the PC pool. This is to prevent console gamers from being wrecked by PC gamer’s superior controls. At no time will a PC player be able to join the console pool. Cross-play formed parties can also take advantage of the in-game voice communications. Lastly, and most importantly, this is only for cross-play, not cross-save/cross-progression. Meaning, you can’t just jump from platform to platform, as your progression will not follow you. Perhaps in the future, but not now.
Keep in mind that during this time, cross-play support will still be considered a beta, so you may encounter some bugs. If you do, be sure to report them to EA/Respawn so they can look into them.
Apex Legends is currently available free to play on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
