When development studio Neverland filed for bankruptcy in 2013, the fate of the much-loved Rune Factory series was up in the air.
However, fans of the farming-action-RPG hybrid rejoiced when it was announced in a 2019 Nintendo Direct that Rune Factory 5 is in fact in development and w0uld be released in 2020. Bad news—it’s coming 2021 but we do have our first look at the longed-for sequel.
The fifth installment looks to be the most ambitious yet as this is the series’ first foray into a behind-the-back perspective. Gone are the chibi character models too as the developers have opted for more realistic proportions. A delay is always a little harsh to hear but the footage shown proves that it might be worth the wait.
Rune Factory 5 is being developed and published by Marvelous Inc. and will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
