Here we go! Sony has just announced the pricing and launch date for the PlayStation. The digital edition is priced at $399.99 and the physical edition has been priced at $499.99. That’s the same price as the Xbox Series X, while the digital edition is $100 less while being just as powerful. If this doesn’t tell you that Sony isn’t playing any games I don’t know what does.
Update: Here’s a few launch titles as well.
- Astro’s Playroom (comes pre-installed)
- Demon’s Souls – $69.99
- Destruction All-Stars – $69.99
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – $49.99 / $69.99 for Ultimate Edition which includes Spider-Man remaster
- Sackboy A Big Adventure – $59.99
- Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition – $69.99
Update: PS5 launch accessories pricing
- DualSense Controller – $69.99
- Pulse 3d Wireless Headset – $99.99
- HD Camera – $59.99
- Remote Control – $29.99
- DualSense Charging Station – $29.99
Pre-orders will also start as soon as tomorrow! That’s right, while the world is trying to pick up an Nvidia RTX 3080, Sony has stated that PlayStation 5 pre-orders will also be in effect. Chances are these pre-orders are going to go fast so I’d make sure you get a jump on that. The only issue with this is Sony only mentions select retailers. Who exactly are the select retailers? Amazon? Gamestop? Best Buy? This is terrible messaging and they didn’t even mention this during the showcase. C’mon Sony, we waited this long and you could have did better than this.

As for the release date, we’ll see the PlayStation 5 launch on November 12th, 2020, for the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea markets. With the remainder of the markets seeing a launch on November 19th, 2020. This is again a direct response to the Xbox Series X/S release date of November 10th, 2020.
Now gamers are going to have to decide which is more important; access to a physical optical drive or not. For me, I’m split. Most of my gaming has been digital and I can’t recall the last time I used my optical drive on the PlayStation 4 Pro and in all likelihood, I’ll be going digital. Yet, at the same time, we do use it as a Blu-Ray player. Decisions, decisions.
Either way, the wait is over for the pricing and launch date at least.
The story is developing…
