The Japan Fighting Game Publisher Roundtable Livestream took place on July 31st/August 1st, and during the course were several announcements for several titles. Below you can catch all of those announcements, all in one place so you don’t have to scour the internet looking for them all.
Enjoy!
Setsuka makes her return in Soul Calibur VI
A character that fans of Soul Calibur is making her return in Soul Calibur VI, Setsuka! She looks completely different as she has received a new design, though I’m still partial to her SC3/4 look. Setsuka will be available for all platforms on August 4th. She’s the 3rd character reveal for SC6’s Season Pass 2, with one more to go. A new character creation update is also being released for the game as well
Tekken 7 teases online update get a new season
Bandai Namco’s Harada made quite the splash when he mentioned that he was thinking that how much he’d like to update the online features for Tekken 7. This has a bit of history, as the Tekken 7 community has constantly complained about Tekken 7’s netcode, to the point where Harada stated that the game did include rollback netcode. Of course, this has been a back and forth between him and those who play the game. It’s a long and complicated story, so I won’t into detail here, but you can Google “Tekken 7 rollback netcode” to get all the details. However, it would seem that he and Bandai Namco are planning to announce something regarding this. Seeing how several other developers have updated their titles to use true rollback netcode, it looks like Tekken 7 may also be in for some changes as well.
There was also a new Season 4 announcement, which will include new moves for all the characters, online play enhancements, and the tease of a returning character. While they made it hard to see who it was, you can just make out the hair and part of the outfit blowing in the wind; it has to be Kunimitsu. Who has made an appearance in a Tekken game, outside of the spin-offs, since Tekken 2. Now, I could be wrong, but it would be nice to see her back in the main series.
Guilty Gear Strive character reveals, coming to PC
The Guilty Gear Strive roster gained two new characters. Returning character Leo Whitefang, complete with several new moves, and the mysterious character we saw during the announcement trailer when GGS was first announced, Nagoriyuki, a muscle-bound character who also happens to be a vampire, and yet another black character introduced into a fighting game.
Nagoriyuki
Nagoriyuki is the newest addition to the Guilty Gear universe. A vampire with a number of unique and powerful abilities, he wields a huge sword with impressive skill in battle and slashes at his enemies with punishing blows. Stay tuned for more info about this mysterious figure!
Leo Whitefang
Leo is one of the three “Allied Kings” of the Allied Kingdom of Illyria, and is responsible for the governing of Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania. He is also an accomplished warrior in his own right, with a relentless fighting style.
The title is also making an appearance on both the PlayStation 5 and PC during Spring 2021.
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Trial coming up
While Capcom didn’t reveal anything Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, due to them holding an event in a few days, they did mention that the game would see a trial. Starting on August 5th, which is the same time that Capcom’s SFV: CE Season 5 event will take place, the game will have a free trial for two weeks. All 40 characters will be playable during this trial.

Going into the Japan Fighting Game Publisher Roundtable, many had hoped to get a look at SNK’s rumored in production fighter, King of Fighters XV. While the game wasn’t shown, SNK’s Oda and Kuroki did finally admit that a ‘game is in development’ and that very soon they’ll have something to show.
Looking at the calendar, the next event that this could be shown at is the 2020 Tokyo Game Show, which will now take place online.
Samurai Shodown free DLC character Gongsun Li, new season incoming
Samurai Shodown (2019) is getting a free DLC character from the popular Chinese MOBA, Honor of Kings. The name of the character is Gongsun Li, and will be coming to the game thanks to SNK’s partnership with Tencent Games. She appears to be rocking a bunny-themed outfit, complete with ears and a bushy tail. Gongsun Li will be available on August 5th, on all platforms, and will be free. No mention if this will be a limited time thing or if this will remain permanent.
A 3rd Season Pass was also mentioned but weren’t any details released for the moment.
Fighting EX Layer gets rollback support
During the live stream, Arika stated they were looking to add rollback netcode to Fighting EX Layer, which was something they stated a few months ago wasn’t happening. Then just like that, the update was rolled out for all platforms. The studio also mentioned that they’d love to keep supporting the title and even bring it to the Switch.
