This fall, Hercule Poirot and his large mustache will return to solve another mystery. 20th Century Fox has revealed the first trailer for Death on the Nile, the sequel to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express. Kenneth Branagh will once again return to direct and star as Poirot. Those who saw Murder on the Orient Express may remember that at the end of the movie, Poirot receives a message asking him to investigate a death in Egypt. Agatha Christie wrote the Poirot novels Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, among others, so it isn’t surprising that the latter should get adapted for a sequel.
News of the sequel has floated around for a while, since Fox decided to announce it before Murder on the Orient Express even made back its budget. Clearly the studio has faith in the series, and likely even more considering that it plans to open it in theater on October 23rd of this year. With numerous studios delaying their films, it’s a bold move.
Like Murder on the Orient Express, which we praised for “a great ensemble cast” in our review, Death on the Nile will feature another high-profile cast. Annette Bening, Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Jennifer Saunders, and Gal Gadot will join Kenneth Branagh this time around, along with several other cast members playing potential suspects and victims. We’ll see how this boat floats come fall.
