Time to get out the night cheese and celebrate like it’s a werewolf bar mitzvah, 30 Rock is coming back for an hour-long reunion special. Created by and starring Tina Fey, 30 Rock focuses on a group of writers and staff on a Saturday Night Live-style sketch show, whose backstage antics are a source for comedy alone. It ran for seven seasons on NBC, ending in 2013.
But now 30 Rock will return, as the show announced it will air a reunion special on July 16th on NBC. The new episode will focus on the characters coming together to celebrate the shows of NBC. If this sounds meta that’s because it is, as 30 Rock is both shown on NBC and parodies the network in-universe.
In a joint statement, executer producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock said, “We’re all happy to have this excuse to (remotely) work together again for NBC. To quote Kenneth the Page, there are only two things we love in this world, television and everyone.”
If a reunion of 30 Rock with Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski and more isn’t enough of a sweet deal, the episode of the Emmy winning show will also air commercial-free. Like Liz Lemon says, looks like you can have it all!
