Mortal Shell, an upcoming action/adventure title with Soulsborne elements was announced today by Cold Symmetry. Who happens to be a team of 15, and folks that are very passionate about this title. Well, I shouldn’t say announced, as the game was previously known by another name. That being Dungeonhaven, which was shown back in 2018. Now it’s back, as Mortal Shell, and it looks like the team has been quite busy with this game.
Interesting enough, Dungeonhaven and now Mortal Shell, has an interesting story regarding how the game came to be. The design and implementation are heavily inspired by several genres, among other things. There’s an interesting read about this that talks about this over at https://80.lv/articles/modern-approaches-to-game-production.
From this trailer, we can see that this game is going to feature plenty of lots of crazy designs lots of enemies that want to rip you apart and that familiar combat that we’ve all grown to love or hate over the years. For me, I just happen to love games like this.
“For a small team like ours, developing this title in many ways felt like crossing an ocean on a paddle board,” the studio’s three co-founders — Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, and Vitaly Bulgarov — said in a joint statement. “To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes. The last two years have been a time of non-stop growth, full of shocking revelations of sheer complexity that goes into creating a video game that you, yourself, would really enjoy playing.”
Cold Symmetry has plans for a closed beta, which they’ll be announcing later. As for the game, we understand that it is being built on Unreal Engine 4 and from the trailer we can see that it already looks amazing. There’s also a Steam page up, so you can go wishlist the game now.
As the Soulsborne fan here at The Outerhaven, I’m adding this one to check out later this year. Or sooner then the closed beta opens up. For now, you can join the Mortal Shell Discord, to speak with the developers and your fellow Soulsborne fans. Maybe I’ll see you there, ya?
Looks like we’ll have something else to look forward to, besides Elden Ring, that is. Visit www.MortalShell.com for more details.
