Well, the day is upon us and the Minecraft beta, baked in with Nvidia’s RTX (raytracing) goodness is here. I’ve been listening to those who had a chance to check this out early and everything so far has been positive. Despite myself never being a fan of Minecraft, I respect it for what it is and if the beta gives me another reason to justify why I paid entirely too much for this RTX 2080 Ti card then I’m all for it.
Also, this beta supports Nvidia’s updated Deep Learning Super Sampling, DLSS 2.0. A huge leap over DLSS 1.0, which offers faster rendering, higher framerates and provides a better Raytracing expensive. The performance tax is still there, but it’s nowhere near as punishing as the original product was. A good case in point is how much better Remedy’s Control is with DLSS 2.0.
Keep in mind that there are a few exceptions to this beta. You’ll need to own the digital version on the Windows 10 store, Java editions are not eligible. If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to sign up for the beta using the Xbox/ Windows Insider app and it may take a bit before you’re added. Lastly, and most importantly, you’ll need an Nvidia RTX GPU. For those wondering, the GTX cards will not work so don’t bother wasting your time.
Owners of Minecraft will see an update, however, in my case I had to remove my original game before I could get the update. Your mileage may vary.
Seeing how my son is a big fan of Minecraft, I suppose he’ll be pushing me off my PC so he can check this out. This will be interesting.
