I’m pretty sure everyone who clicked this headline groaned after reading it but do not fret… there may be hope! Netflix did announce that they will be producing a live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece series but it was also announced that Eiichiro Oda himself will be overseeing the entirety of the project! Oda will serve in the Executive Producer role and help guide the series as Netflix creates it.
Oda himself posted a personal message to all his fans regarding his involvement which, when translated from Japanese, reads as follows:
I know I announced the production of this back in 2017, but these things take time! Preparations have been slowly progressing behind the scenes, and it seems that I can finally make the big announcement: Netflix, the world’s leading streaming entertainment service, will be lending us their tremendous production support! This is so encouraging!! How far will the story progress over the 10 episodes of Season 1? Who will be cast!? Please be patient a little longer and stay tuned!!
Marty Adelstein (Prison Break) and ITV Studios will produce the series. Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will serve as the writer while Steven Maeda and Becky Clements will take on Executive Producer roles. The live-action One Piece series is slated to have 10 episodes when all is said and done.
As of right now, there is no word on when the series is set to premiere.
