Minecraft Bedrock arrives on the PlayStation 4 sooner than expected
We’ve speculated on if Minecraft Bedrock was heading to the PlayStation 4. Heck, we even talked about it on last night’s episode of Spectator Mode Podcast, but now it’s official. Minecraft Bedrock will release tomorrow (December 10, 2019) on the PlayStation 4. The new version will be available as both a digital download and a physical release.

With this update, comes a slew of new features, the Minecraft Marketplace, but more importantly crossplay. Yes, now PS4 Minecraft players will be able to play with their friends on the Xbox One, Switch, mobile devices, and the PC. It’s finally happening and I’m glad to see that Sony realized how important crossplay is for the evolution of gaming.
One of Minecraft’s core missions is to connect players across devices and provide the best experience regardless of platform. We continue to fulfill that mission here today by welcoming PS4 players to Minecraft on Bedrock and growing our cross-platform multiplayer community. — Helen Chiang, Studio Head of Minecraft
For those who already own Minecraft on the PlayStation 4, the next time you start the game up the new update will install automatically. You’ll need a Microsoft account in order to login to the services, but you won’t need to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber. Though, you’ll still earn PlayStation Network trophies.
So there you have it, Minecraft Bedrock is coming to the PlayStation 4 and it’s about damned time.
Check out the trailer below and remember, you aren’t dreaming. What a time to be a gamer.
