Final Fantasy XIV director, Naoki Yoshida recently announced at a UK Final Fantasy fan meetup that he hopes to bring the MMO hit to PlayStation 5.

It was originally reported by other outlets as planned, but Square Enix has reached out and confirmed that Yoshida simply hopes it’ll come to PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy XIV is quite possibly the most successful and popular MMO right now, rivaled only by Activision-Blizzard’s World of Warcraft MMO. Which is definitely an accomplishment, given the previous state of the Final Fantasy MMO.
Final Fantasy XIV struggled tremendously in its early years but was saved thanks to A Realm Reborn under direction by Naoki Yoshida, AKA, “Yoshi P”. All expansions afterward were also directed by Yoshi P, including the critically beloved Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers.
It’s also confirmed that Yoshi P is working on a new project at Square Enix and rumored that it might be Final Fantasy 16. A fitting role, considering that he saved FFXIV and made it one of Square Enix’s most successful titles.
