A few days ago, Rockstar Games announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 was finally making its way to the PC. During this announcement, we found about the release date, pre-order info and what else would be included in the game. However, we didn’t get the really important stuff such as what resolutions the game will support or if HDR would be included. Well, we can stop wondering as Rockstar Games has provided yet another update and this one is chockful of useful information.
Ok, let’s get to the stuff you PC gamers want to know first. Yes, both 4K and HDR support has made its way into the game, as did multi-monitor support and ultrawide screen support. I know quite a few people will be happy about that. There is also a mention of faster frame rates 60/120FPS, so I’m hoping this means unlocked frame rates also being available.
I know there’s been a lot of talk regarding the storage requirement, so let’s talk about that. Red Dead Redemption 2 does require 150GB for its install, and it will likely get larger than once the game unpacks. That’s a lot of space, but if I’m being honest this is just the cost of high-resolution assets and more content. The same game is 105GB on the PS4, or at least it was when it was released. There have been several updates weighing at 3GB and above throughout the game’s life. While the PC is getting 4K assets, or possibly larger, all those updates and the new story content. Yes, that’s a big chunk of hard drive space but that’s just the way that AAA games are going.
Moving on to the PC requirements, they’re quite tame. Judging from what we’re seeing below, this has to be for 720p/30FPS or 1080p/60FPS. I’d wager that playing at 1440p or 4K with all the bells and whistles is going to require considerably more power.
