We are less than a month away from Pokemon Sword and Shield on Nintendo Switch, and fans are getting excited for the first true core entry in the franchise on console. It’s been a long time coming, and the team at Game Freak know that.
So much so that director Shigeru Ohmori noted in an interview with Game Informer that they set out to make this the “greatest” Pokemon game ever made:
“We set out with the idea of making the ultimate, strongest, the best Pokemon game yet, being on Nintendo Switch, the first time an all-new generation is coming to a console. It was really just every facet of the game: gameplay, visuals, everything. That was really the theme for when I set out making the game: the greatest Pokemon game.”
That’s a tall order, and an interesting idea given that this will be the first Pokemon core title ever where you can’t literally Catch’em All. As the game won’t be able to support all the data of all the Pokemon within the title.
Still, with Gigamax, the Wild Area, high-res 3D graphics, and the promise of more, Sword and Shield might just be the best, only time will tell.
