While you may not know the name AlphaDream right off the bat, if you know the Mario & Luigi RPG franchise that has been going on since the Game Boy Advance, you’ll know that they’re a key handheld developer for Nintendo.
They’ve been working on the various forms of the Mario & Luigi franchise for over 15 years, among making other titles for companies like Marvelous! and such. But now, reports are surfacing that the company has filed for bankruptcy.
While this doesn’t technically mean that they’re shut down, it does mean that they’re in desperate straights. Apparently the reason for this is that while they were making good enough money to pay for things on one level, the increased production costs mixed with the somewhat lackluster sales of recent titles and other facts led them into a ton of debt.
The company has made five games starting the dynamic brother pairing of Mario and Luigi, including; Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga; Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time; Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story; Mario & Luigi: Dream Team; and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
Our thoughts go out to the team at AlphaDream, and we hope you can bounce back from this.
