Ever since Crisis on Infinite Earths was confirmed last year after the end of the crossover event “Elseworlds”, there was one big question on everyone’s mind…would the Smallville cast make an appearance?
At first, there were clear denying that this wouldn’t happen, but now, we can confirm via showrunner Marc Guggenheim and Deadline that Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent/Superman in Smallville will be in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville,” Guggenheim said. “Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
Now, there’s two twists on this tale. First off, the statement from Guggenheim and the CW state that Welling will be playing Clark Kent, but doesn’t say he’ll be suiting up as Superman. What’s more, he’ll reveal what “happened” to Clark in terms of his world almost a decade after Smallville ended. Which means fans may not get what they expect, we’ll have to see.
Should he suit up, this would be the third Superman to join the cast, as Tyler Hoechlin from Supergirl will be returning as his version of Superman, and Brandon Routh (who also plays The Atom in Legends of Tomorrow) will be the Kingdom Come Superman in the crossover.
And there are many, MANY more returns coming as well, and some surprises are sure to be left in the dark until they happen when the crossover comes this December and January.
But no matter what good things happen…just remember… #ACrisisIsComing
So excited. Tom is incredible. Bringing back his Clark is something we always wanted to do for Crisis. https://t.co/PnDGNWjN32
