It’s an anime-styled Shantae and Super Smash Bros?
At the beginning of July 2019, WayForward had announced that the anime studio TRIGGER would be working on a new opening animation for the upcoming Shantae 5. Well, we’re getting a look at that new opening earlier than expected.
As you’d expect, this is definitely anime-styled. Which is what you should have expected with TRIGGER at the helm of this. It’s shorter than I’d imagine it would be but still, it’s definitely Shantae through and through. The music is also very catchy, thanks to Cristina Vee handling the vocals, original composition by Mark Sparling and musical arrangement by Maddie Lim.
So far I’ve watched this video about 20 times. I know I shouldn’t be so fantasized. Especially since I’m well acquainted with TRIGGER’s works. But I can’ help it, it’s really good.
Now that this is out of the way and you’ve watched it a few times. Have you seen what could quite possibly be a teased message in the trailer? No, you missed it? Ok, let me help you. For a while now, fans of Shantae have been asking for her to be added to the Super Smash Bros. roster.
While she’s never made it into a game, that doesn’t mean she’s been ruled out yet. In what can be described as a funny coincidence is that the window in the Shantae 5 opening animation also looks like the Super Smash Bros. symbol.
Sure, this could be reading into this way too much. However, it’s really odd that the window is shaped exactly like the Super Smash Bros. symbol. Well, except for it’s reversed. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has seen this.
Either way, I’m sure we’re going to see more people requesting Shantae’s inclusion into Super Smash Bros. UItimate again. And maybe this time it might even happen.
Shantae 5 is slated for a late 2019 release on the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and Apple Arcade.
