The full reveal of Marvel’s Avengers won’t happen until Square Enix’s E3 presentation on June 10, but thanks to an E3 coliseum panel description first spotted by Evan Filarca on Twitter, we now know a little bit about the upcoming game. Unfortunately, the listing has since been revised, but luckily there are screengrabs out there we can look at (thanks, PC Gamer).
The panel, entitled Marvel’s Avengers Showcase, sheds some light on what we can expect from the game. The description reads:
“Embrace your powers and join key members of the development team at Crystal Dynamics and the creative team at Marvel Games as they talk exclusively about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Moderated by Andrea Rene, assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat.”
The mention of “continuous” single-player and co-op combined with an “ever-expanding world under constant threat” screams live service, so expect something akin to Destiny or The Division. The game will also feature hero customization, which could open up some interesting possibilities for some cool gear given Marvel’s rich history of different suits and gadgets. Thankfully, story seems like it’ll play a large role in the experience.
The information in this listing lines up with tidbits we’ve heard in the past. Alleged job postings for the game that surfaced in late 2017 indicated that the game would feature online play and be a third-person cover-based action game. Crystal Dynamics also recently expanded and hired a lot of talented developers that have worked on titles like Uncharted and Dead Space. Hopefully, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal can bring us the living, breathing Marvel world we’ve all wanted for so long.
Marvel’s Avengers will be fully revealed at Square Enix’s E3 Presentation on June 10 at 6PM PT.
