Epic Games has been snatching up exclusives for its new storefront like it’s going out of style. Control, The Outer Worlds, and even the newly announced Borderlands 3 will all be available solely on the Epic Games Store for six months to a year. Now, a recent leak suggests that Rockstar’s open-world western Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to join these exclusives when it launches on PC.
A leaker from 4chan has stated that the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will supposedly be announced on April 22 for a July 9 release. Not only that, but it will reportedly be exclusively available on the Epic Games Store indefinitely. 2K and Epic have purportedly struck a deal so that 2K can receive full profit from any DLC or microtransaction sales, removing any chance of a Steam release.
The online portion of Grand Theft Auto V brings in a ton of money for 2K through the sale of “Shark Cards”, which provide players with in-game money in exchange for real-world cash, and Red Dead Online, while not making as much as its modern-day counterpart, still generates massive profits, so 2K working out a deal with Epic to maximize their income wouldn’t exactly be beyond belief. Borderlands 3 is also being published by 2K, so they already have a history of putting their games on Epic’s store too.
Of course, with this being a rumor, there’s a very good chance that none of this is true. 4chan leaks are either very right or very wrong and this leak seems to be throwing in a lot of buzzwords to grab people’s attention. Also, the same leaker went on to say that Super Mario Odyssey would be coming exclusively to the Epic Games Store and that Nintendo struck the same deal as 2K to take full profit on DLC released for the game, so this guy either has visions of a very strange future, or he’s making everything up. Like every rumor, take this one with a grain of salt.
While Mario probably won’t be making his way onto the PC anytime soon, Red Dead Redemption 2 will almost definitely see a PC release in the coming future, but what launchers it’ll be available on remain to be seen.
