Koei Tecmo has recently created a Twitter account for the Monster Rancher series to celebrate the 20th anniversary for the second game in the series, Monster Rancher 2, which came out on the PlayStation back in 1997.
In a new tweet posted today by the official account, translated by Gematsu, Koei Tecmo seems to tease of a possible future entry for the series: “Please give us your support in the future!”

It is not much to go off of but, being that the series has been stagnant for so long, almost 10 years now, it gives me hope that a new game is in the works since I played and watched the series when I was younger.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the series, it is a life simulation role-playing game where you basically are a monster breeder who raises monsters to fight in tournaments. The series is often compared to Pokemon due to the fact that they both involve monsters that need to be raised, however, Monster Rancher primarily focuses much more on the breeding aspect and less so on the battling that Pokemon is known for.
What makes this series very unique is due to the fact that you can unlock monsters by inserting certain DVDs or CDs into the console while the game is still running. The developers created a unique system that took data from other discs that would unlock certain monster depending on the type of media that was inserted. For example, in the first game, if you inserted a Christmas-themed music album, it would give you a monster with a “Santa” trait. And in Monster Rancher 4, you could throw in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets DVD or PS2 game, and it would give you a special owl monster.
If they do come out with a new game and still implement the data reading sequence that they used in previous games today, who knows what incredible monsters we would be able to unlock. The possibilities are endless!
Let us know what you guys think of the possibility of a new Monster Rancher game!
