It was announced in the Australian Financial Review newspaper that the anime production company Aniplex has acquired Madman’s anime division. The deal was closed for an amount of $35 million AU or about $25 million USD. Aniplex had previously invested in Madman one year ago in February 2018, holding a minor stake in the company.
Madman Entertainment is a company that operates in Australia and New Zealand by distributing videos. Madman also owns and operates the AnimeLab streaming website which launched back in 2014. They also launched the Madman Anime Festival two years later in 2016, hosting the festival in Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane.
Aniplex is owned by Sony, who also purchased FUNimation last year which ended its partnership with Crunchyroll. Sony then went on to sign a first-look deal with Hulu.
