What with the Series of Unfortunate Events finally coming to an end, Netflix is on the prowl for the next big literary adaptation. And they seem to have found it in Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling YA fantasy novels that make up the Grishaverse. The streaming giant has ordered an 8-episode series that with combine the storylines of Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows.
According to Deadline, there are some heavy-weights on the project: Eric Heisserer, writer of horror hit Bird Box, and Shawn Levy, executive producer of mega-hit series Stranger Things. Christina Strain from The Magicians is also on board as a writer. No word yet as to whether Leigh Bardugo will have a role on the production.
Here’s the synopsis for the show, as reported by Deadline (though not the official one):
In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.
Bardugo has been pretty excited about it on Twitter, which is always a good thing to see from the original writer.

This is our head writer and showrunner. It's always scary to put your work in someone else's hands, but @HIGHzurrer is a dang genius (and a lovely human) so that helps. #grishaverse #netflix https://t.co/3RRxfmpNd5
