Ah, Sekiro. The upcoming Shinobi hack and slash title from the mind that gave us the Dark Souls series, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has been at the forefront games I’m looking to play this year. Every little bit of info I need to read or watch. So imagine my surprise when I found out he sat down during the 2019 Tapei Gameshow, to talk about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
You can check out the entire read here, however, I’m going to go over some of the more important bits from it.
Multiple endings are in. Just like with Dark Souls II’s two endings and Dark Souls III’s four endings, Sekiro will feature multiple endings. However, the endings will be more connected to the story. I’m not 100% sure it was worded like this. Perhaps a stab at those found in the Souls games?
New Game Plus modes. Many had wondered if Sekiro would include New Game Plus modes. You know the ones where you beat the game and start over with all your gear intact. While the enemies get progressively harder. Well, now we know that the will include a New Game Plus mode. Which is fantastic to hear, though not overly unexpected. Especially since Sekiro will not feature any sort of online gameplay, meaning New Game Plus will help extend the replay value.
RTA is not factored in. RTA or Real-time Attack is not something that Hidetaka Miyazaki wanted to include in the game. While Speedruns have become increasingly popular, they also tend to have those attempting to rush through the game using all sorts of glitches and bugs. As such, many were hoping Sekiro might forgo this and add a speedrun mode. Doesn’t look like that’s happening.
Personally, I like watching RTA, but that’s what I’m aiming for, even when I notice how people skip past something or how they make shortcuts. I’m keeping my distance from this. If we started planning or designing the game with that in mind, players will eventually think that we stop enjoying RTA, but that’s not what we are after. I’m looking forward to seeing how people do RTA in the game that we’ve made. Honestly, nobody on staff can do a speed run or anything that those players do, says Hidetaka Miyazaki
Again, there’s more to be read in the original link. However, it is nice to see that we’re getting more information on the title. Especially since most of the news has stopped and we’re two months away from the release of the game. Speaking of news, did you happen to see the recent reveal of one of the bosses in the game? In a recent tweet from the official Twitter account, we get a nice look at Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa. A Samarui who makes an appearance on an armored horse. Oh, I do hope we get to fight him on that horse because that would be amazing.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was announced during E3 2018 and will be released on March 22, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. I’ve already pre-ordered my PC and PlayStation 4 copy. Why two, you ask? Simple, did you see that collectors edition? That’s all I have to say about that.
